Let’s Talk About Cancer
As a unified collective, we’re raising our voices as one: Cancer must
become a priority in South Africa.
WHAT’S ON THE TABLE
Cancer must become a priority in SA
As a unified collective, we’re raising our voices as one: Cancer must become a priority in South Africa.
As cancer NGOs and independent advocates standing together – united within the Cancer Alliance – we no longer speak separately. We are now talking as a unified collective – and we’re all saying the same thing:
We need to stand together. We want to make sure everybody knows: cancer is an illness that can treated if it is detected early. And you can live a good, healthy life – despite your cancer – for a long time if you find help sooner rather than later.
Let’s talk about cancer
Stigma & Silence
We can no longer afford to stay stuck in stigmatised silence about this illness that destroys the lives of too many. We need to talk about cancer in a way that demystifies stigma and terminates taboos.
The talking points we need to address
Public Health Infrastructure
We need to talk about the fragmented & overloaded public health sector that neglects cancer patients’ needs.
We need cancer services that work. We need cancer treatment equipment that works.
The talking points we need to address
Emotional Health & Wellbeing
We need to talk about the excruciating reality of cancer’s
emotional & psycho-social impact. We need to talk about the lack of emotional support services for cancer patients.
We need to talk about how patients are not receiving patient-centered treatment.
Let’s talk about cancer
Transport & Rural Areas
We need to talk about the TRANSPORT PROBLEMS our public
sector patients have – especially in rural areas. We need to
talk about having cancer services located nearer to
the patients’ homes.
The talking points we need to address
Affordability & Health Budgets
We need to talk about a bigger budget for cancer services to
make sure that we have equitable treatment.
We need to talk about affordable treatment options.
The talking points we need to address
Equitable Access for All
We need cancer treatment equity across South Africa.
We need tohave better access to early detection & treatment
to avoid late diagnosis. We need to talk about healthcare professionals
receiving appropriate training to deal EFFECTIVELY with cancer.
